Rockland, ME, May 3, 2019 —The Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) announces support from First National Bank to underwrite the 2019 season of ArtLab Open Studio, CMCA’s free-of-charge community arts education program.

“First National Bank has been a strong partner of CMCA since our move to Rockland,” said Suzette McAvoy, CMCA’s Executive Director. “Their support of our 2018 Biennial Exhibition ensured the application process was free for more than 650 artists across the state. This year, their support of our ArtLab Open Studio program ensures every visitor to CMCA has access to free creative art making experiences.”

“We are proud to continue our relationship with CMCA by sponsoring their Art Lab space,” said First National Bank’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Tony McKim, “It’s a unique space in downtown Rockland and we are happy to offer our support.”

CMCA’s ArtLab Open Studio program provides all visitors to the downtown Rockland art center the opportunity to participate in hands-on art making regardless of age or artistic ability. Projects change seasonally with each change of exhibitions and are designed to enrich the visitor experience, provide memorable engagement with the art on view, and help build visual literacy skills.

In 2018, more than 1,750 Midcoast students, residents, and visitors took part in CMCA’s ArtLab program. “Year after year, it remains one of our most beloved programs,” says McAvoy.
