Introducing The Suzette McAvoy Exhibition Fund

CMCA’s Board of Trustees established the Suzette McAvoy Exhibition Fund in 2021 as a permanent tribute to our recently retired Executive Director and Chief Curator, her vision, and her accomplishments in the field. Under Suzette’s curatorial vision, the works of Jonathan Borofsky, David Driskell, Ann Craven, Alex Katz, Inka Essenhigh, William Wegman, John Walker, and scores of other notable artists have graced CMCA’s galleries and enriched Maine residents and visitors.

The Fund will advance CMCA’s commitment to mount outstanding, cutting-edge exhibitions by a diverse roster of emerging and established artists with ties to Maine. The Board has set a four-year goal to raise $500,000 to ensure funding to sustain meaningful exhibitions that speak across generations, introduce new artist practices, and spark conversations about the role of art and artists in contemporary society. The Fund will support exhibition-related expenses including, but not limited to: transportation, travel, installation, artist stipends, virtual tours, catalogues, and marketing and publicity. As the Fund is well underway, a gift in any amount will help us reach our goal.

Please join CMCA’s Board of Trustees in making a financial investment in the Fund. By doing so, you will demonstrate to Maine and the larger art world how much we value Suzette’s contribution and her extraordinary legacy in fostering artists while furthering contemporary art in Maine and beyond. Thank you!
