Rockland, ME, February 14, 2020 — Artist Ariel Hall will perform a newly created work, 6pm and Anon, at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) in Rockland on Sunday, February 23, from noon to 3pm. The performance is presented in conjunction with the current exhibition, Temporality: The Process of Time, featuring the work of 14 Maine-connected artists whose work explores ideas of repetition, duration, and process.

Ariel Hall is a multi-disciplinary artist from mid-coast Maine, working primarily in performance and installation. She has shown her work in New York City at La MaMa, Panoply Performance Lab, and the Culture Project, as well as in urban and rural public spaces internationally. From 2013 to 2015, Hall performed and facilitated participatory exhibitions for The Museum of Modern Art, including the work of artists Yoko Ono, James Lee Byars, and Lygia Clark.

6pm and Anon explores the unsteady power in the rhythms of daily life through repetitive, task-based activity that engenders the ritual of self-formation, particularly for mothers, without forgetting the more visible woman she also is. Set within a sonic environment based on a year’s worth of 1-minute recordings made each evening at 6pm, the piece invites viewers to reflect on their own sense of self that conflicts, shifts, and accretes over time through the recurrent activities and spaces we occupy each day.

The public is invited to drop in anytime during the performance period. Refreshments will be served and CMCA’s online “Art You Love” auction will be available for previewing.
