*CANCELED* ArtLab for All Ages | March

March 4, 2023 | 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm EST

March ArtLab for All
Saturday, March 4 | 2:00–4:00
Instructor: Tori Marsh
Drop-in | Free and open to all!

*This program is canceled due to the predicted storm.*

Inspired by artworks on view in our galleries by Biennial artists Elyse Grams and Rachel Adams, participants will learn the basics of embroidery and create their own small embroidered piece and explore making our own painted mini quilts. Participants are encouraged to depict their own viewpoints of today’s world, a kind of embroidered “diary” entry. These improvisational patchwork pieces will be influenced by the natural world through color, pattern and texture. Quilts will be painted with watercolor to give a dyed look and sewn together, time permitting, or glued onto a piece of heavier paper. Bring together these two fiber forms by combining imagery and text.

About the instructor
Tori Marsh is an embroidery artist, educator and mother based out of Rockland, Maine. Marsh has been using embroidery as a form of drawing for the past 8 years. Her surreal “wild women” draw upon the notion of goddess-like grace and power, but most importantly, they’re meant to be humorous. Tori is obsessed with Icelandic/Scandinavian knitwear, cross stitch patterns, quilts, and other textiles. Her embroideries have been shown across the country and she has had the privilege of attending residencies from Canada to Iceland.

Photography Policy: By participating in ArtLab programming, I understand my child or myself may be photographed by CMCA staff for general documentation and publicity. I also understand that no royalty, fee or other compensation shall become payable to me by reason of such use.
