Join us in welcoming the 2023 CMCA Biennial with an artists reception and refreshments. The event will be preceded by a performance by Biennial artist, Shane Charles at 2pm.

The 23rd edition of the CMCA Biennial features features artworks by 35 Maine-based and connected artists, including two collaboratives. The selected artists were chosen from a pool of 423 artists by this year’s distinguished jurors – Misa Jeffereis, Assistant Curator at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis and Sarah Montross, Senior Curator at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum (Lincoln, MA).

The event will be preceded at 2pm by a free, public performance that will result in the creation of Shane Charles’ Biennial artwork.

The CMCA Biennial is the longest-running statewide juried exhibition in Maine and highlights the latest developments in contemporary art by Maine-based and connected artists.

The 2023 CMCA Biennial is made possible by grants from the Susanne Marcus Collins Foundation and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and by generous donors to the Suzette McAvoy Exhibition Fund.
