Lumen Printing with Biennial Artist Shaina Gates
Lumen printing is an experimental photographic technique that produces unexpectedly colorful images using only silver gelatin paper (i.e. black and white photographic paper), the sun, and salt. No darkroom, or specialized equipment required! Participants will go over a variety of techniques for making lumen prints, including the use of photographic sources, found objects, painterly manipulations, etc. This medium allows for a range of approaches—from expressive and gestural to methodical and precise. No prior artistic or photographic experience necessary. Attendees will leave with the knowledge and basic supplies to continue making lumen prints on their own, using whatever kind of in-home or studio work-space they already have. Attendees are responsible for off-site lunch accommodations.

Schedule:
10:00–12:00 Techniques + Approaches
12:00–1:00 Lunch break
1:00–4:00 Studio

Please note: as this process requires sunshine for photographic exposure there is a  rain date of Sunday, May 14.
