Patchwork Artifacts

Before you begin, take a virtual tour of the CMCA 2020 Biennial looking closely at the work of artists Isabelle O’Donnell and Baxter Koziol. Find inspiration in O’Donnell and Koziol’s fresh interpretation of the traditional “crazy-quilt” and create your own multi-dimensional artifact of the future.

Using paper scraps and recently recycled newspapers and magazines, patch together images and artifacts from the current time to form a collaged “crazy-quilt.”  Use a simple armature to bend and mold your faux quilt into a relic for the future. Gather your household materials and follow along with our at-home activity prompt!

Materials needed: newspaper or table cover, liquid glue (Elmer’s works great!), cup w/water, glue brush, newspaper & magazine clippings, colorful paper scraps, popsicle sticks, wire, crumpled newspaper (material to build your armature), yarn, stickers, gems to be used as seam embellishment.
