Emily Grace Lowe was born and raised in midcoast Maine where her imagination, inspiration, and sense of wonder was shaped by countless hours exploring the granite shore and spruce tree forest near her home in Owls Head. She graduated with honors from Maine College of Art in 2000 with a BFA in Photography. Shortly after college her love for nature led her out of the darkroom and into the world of gardening. While traveling she was introduced to Biodynamics and the work of Rudolf Steiner; an experience which opened her eyes to the relationship between the soil, humans, plants and the cosmos, and left a deep impression in her heart. Upon returning to Maine this passion steered her toward almost 10 years of gardening and farming in the Midcoast region, tending to gourmet vegetables, fruits, flowers and livestock.
From 2012 to 2021 Emily changed gears to work for her family’s business manufacturing and hand-finishing fine custom-made door hardware in Rockland, Maine. Concurrent with her career at Lowe Hardware, she began studying with The Unseen Hand, a school dedicated to the preservation of Taoist alchemical medicine and the cultivation of the heart through a mystical tradition of the sacred feminine. In 2018 after a 15 year hiatus, Emily realized she had lost touch with the artist she had always been and her relationship to creating art was rekindled; the training and cultivation awakened a seed which had lain dormant for many years, waiting for her to return.  She began drawing and painting and in the spring of 2021 she left the family business to pursue a new path, one which remains open for discovery. She is also training in the School of 3 Lights, a school for the training of the muse herself. This training calls to the soul of the artist to reach toward the light of humanity and the Earth. Emily believes that art is a gift from the Earth and that one of the functions of the artist is to give this gift back to the Earth and humanity in this time of unprecedented planetary and spiritual crisis. Emily currently lives and works in Thomaston, Maine.
