Join us this month as we explore abstract, mixed media painting. Guest artist Hélène Farrar will demonstrate a technique she calls “Building an Abstract History” that will help makers to approach the blank page with confidence. Using collage, acrylic paint and spontaneous mark-making, guests will discover how to start an abstract piece using this approachable, beginner-friendly technique.

About the instructor:

Hélène Farrar has taught and worked in the visual arts in Maine and beyond for over twenty years.  Primarily working in the ancient medium of encaustic (hot, molten beeswax), her colorful paintings draw themes from both the natural world and her observations of people. The paintings have a depth and luminousness achieved through careful attention to texture and surface quality. She considers her work part of a conversation about humanity, beauty, and nature. Farrar’s unique style is playful but also serious. “I’m very serious about my silly work,” she says. “I take it very seriously.”
