Kate Emlen paints in Cape Rosier, Maine. She began her career as a commercial artist, designing silkscreen prints, an intellectual process of working out color and composition relationships for the printing press that proved to be useful to her at the easel. Emlen received her MFA from Yale University and had residencies at Vermont Studio School, Bennington College, and the International School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture in Montecastello diVibio, Italy.
