I am interested dealing with history and temporal existence by investigating themes of time.
Divided into sections – the relationship between sea and sky, sedges and water and hay bales and
fields take on an abstract geometry.
While I often photograph using available light, at times I favor a painting with light technique to
highlight a subject. With the darkness of night as the canvas, I shine light or in essence paint
favored areas of the scene with light during the camera exposure. I liken it to a darkroom
printing technique but this process occurs in the camera, one shot, not post exposure. Whether
I’m incorporating lights or not, the length of exposures can range from 20 seconds to upwards of
6 or more hours. I am often physically involved in the process, in front of the camera, though
unseen, but still part of the story.
