ArtLab, CMCA's hands-on education program, offers year-round classes and workshops for all ages.
ArtLab for All Ages workshops are held on the first Saturday of every month, year-round, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. All materials are provided, everyone is welcome, and all workshops are free. This program is rooted in inclusiveness and exploration; collaboration and experimentation with materials is encouraged. ArtLab for All Ages offers a dynamic, open-ended approach to creating work in an atmosphere in which the imagination can soar. Donations are always appreciated.
ArtLab for Kids includes ArtCamp, afterschool programs, and vacation week workshops.
ArtCamp is a series of eight week-long workshops for children 6 to 10 years old. Sessions are three hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to noon. Each morning includes unusual, creative art immersion, with painting, sculpture, printmaking, and everything in between. In addition to time spent in the CMCA galleries for observational drawing, there are scavenger hunts, stories, art games, and lots of messy, colorful fun.
Check our schedule each season for afterschool programs for kids, vacation week workshops, and ArtLab StoryLab, a program offered in collaboration with the Rockport Public Library.
ArtLab for Teens is a series of afternoon workshops for kids 11 to 15 years old. Held in the months of summer, teen workshops emphasize a more concentrated focus on concepts and techniques. Teens explore their own creativity and sense of style while discovering art in a studio setting and in the CMCA galleries.
ArtLab for Adults: Past workshops have emphasized sparking creativity and thinking outside of the box, encouraging both beginners and experienced artists to approach art-making from a new perspective. Check our schedule each season for adult workshops.
ArtLab instructors are at once educators and artists. Our philosophy places value on creative process and learning to think and respond with imagination, vision, and expression. We provide an environment in which students have the opportunity to work with new materials, to discover, to invent, and, above all, to have fun!
ArtLab is made possible in part by generous support from the Milton and Sally Avery Art Foundation, Camden National Bank, and individual donors.
