Sunday Salon | Curator Steven Matijcio

November 19, 2017 | 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST

Sunday, November 19, 3-5pm
Free to CMCA members; others with admission

Join us for an engaging talk with special guest Steven Matijcio, Curator at Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Matijcio’s talk will address one of the most vexing and challenging questions facing non-profit art centers and museums: how to compete for audiences and attention in the age of Netflix, streaming services, and home-based entertainment? How does an arts organization tackle this challenge when virtual and screen-based experiences are ever more seductive and pervasive, particularly with younger generations? Matijcio’s presentation will highlight exhibitions and projects from the past four years that illuminate ways contemporary art can successfully move inside and outside the screen.

Prior to serving as Curator at Cincinnati’s Contemporary Arts Center, Matijcio served as Curator of Contemporary Art at Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and has held positions at Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art, The Power Plant, Art Gallery of Ontario, and the National Gallery of Canada. He is a graduate of the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College. In 2010, he was honored with a prestigious Emily Hall Tremaine Exhibition Award, and in 2012, he curated the 4th edition of the Narracje Festival in Gdansk, Poland.

Stay after the talk for further conversation and refreshments.
