Kathleen Florance studies the natural world. She abstracts insects, trees, and plants into line and color; they become meditations on cycles of growth and decay—and sometimes, as in this work, verge slyly on the anthropomorphic. She has exhibited her work around the world, including in Beijing and Moscow. In Maine, her work has been featured at the Atrium Art Gallery at the University of Southern Maine, the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, and at CMCA. In 2009, she had a solo show at the Caldbeck Gallery in Rockland, which represents her.
