Stell, now 97, has been painting and producing art for 80 years. Her work has been shown internationally, and many works have been privately commissioned. With her late husband, always known only as Shevis, they did many murals including for the old Thorndike Hotel, a Holiday Inn in North Carolina, a Junior College in South Carolina, a school in Greenbush, Maine, and St. Philips Church in Lewiston. They helped to start the Haystack Mt. School of Crafts in Liberty, Maine before it moved to Deer Isle. They were also founders of the Maine Coasts Artists (CMCA), and the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset. Stell says, “all of Maine’s seasons are vibrant with color, but most brilliant and exciting for me are the blueberry fields in October.”
