My work is strongly influenced by two very different studio locations—the Brooklyn Navy Yard and the area near Mt. Blue, in Maine. Worlds apart, both beautiful and exciting. The shipping and dry dock activities in Brooklyn offer the seemingly solid blackness of barges, the angles of cranes, and the tenuous delicacy of rusting metal. It is a sculpture park, an encyclopedia of shapes and their combinations, a text without a glossary. Walking or driving along the winding roads near Weld, trees, mountains, and streams constantly reposition themselves and the landscape becomes a dramatic moment.
