For Conrad there is always an anxious moment when starting a new painting but always with joy anticipating being faced with challenges he will be confronted with and finding the solutions to these challenges. Challenge is also about letting go and to let the painting arrive on itʼs own terms.

Conradʼs paintings are abstract and on a large scale influenced in his early teens by Rouault and later in life by the abstract expressionists. His process is spontaneous. He will begin working on a new painting turning it on all four sides until the painting finds its proper position for him to work on until completion. This may be quick or can continue throughout the process. Turning the painting in different directions allows Conrad to analyze the current situation of challenges more clearly.

I paint not by what I see but by feelings the painting arouses in me.Each layer of paint contains insight of past colors, shapes, and texture.
I always want my paintings to challenge me, returning to challenge the viewer.
