Integral to my art practice are walks in nature; traversing open spaces, feeling the quality of the air, listening to the wind and birds, and experiencing the spacious wilderness of our common ceiling. I watch the transformation of cloud formations with focused attention or hold an open gaze on the subtle abstraction of an empty blue sky. Walking, while fully present in the moment, becomes a form of performance art. During these walks, I take documentary photographs that serve as source material for my paintings.
My work is based on seeing the everyday world as a door into the remarkable, where a moment opens into the timeless.
Whether taking photographs or painting, I enter into a state of flow aiming to capture, or express, a quality of time that is continuous and unfolding. Painting in an intuitive fashion, I often work in bursts of intense, concentrated energy, applying acrylic paint in a broad range of techniques, frequently using repeated gestures to build-up complex rhythms and spaces.
In my art, I strive to reflect the consciousness that arises while contemplating the unending process of transformation in the boundless sky.
