Ms. Beneman’s current work is inspired by the High Line park in New York, which is on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. The series is constructed using a combination of processes: collagraph, monoprint, and trace monotypes. Many of the pieces are then cut out and layered.

Chris Beneman lives and works in the Portland, Maine, area. Originally from Boston, she came to Maine to attend Bates College and never left.

Beneman’s work has been widely exhibited, most recently at the Maine Jewish Museum in Portland. She has been included in recent exhibitions at the South Shore Art Center, Cohasset, MA; The Center for Contemporary Printmaking, Norwalk, CT; The New Hampshire Institute of Art, Manchester, NH; Washington Printmakers, Washington, DC; and the Center for Book Arts in NYC. In Maine she has shown at The Barn Gallery, The UNE Art Gallery, Lewis Gallery in the Portland Public Library, Art House Gallery, Space Gallery, and the Denmark Center for the Arts, among others.

She has been a member of Peregrine Press since 2005. Peregrine Press will celebrate their 25th anniversary with an exhibition at the Lewis Gallery in the Portland Public Library from May 6-June 28, 2016.
